With Saffron and the failed marriage behind him, Ranma tries to settle into a normal life. He tries hard not to incur the wrath of his violent fiancee but she is still angry over the failed wedding, attacks at any provocation whether imagined or real.

One such provocation lands not only Ranma, but Ryoga in the hospital. They were fighting as usual when Akane attacked Ranma yelling.

"QUIT PICKING ON RYOGA!"

In the ensuing beating Ryoga begins to worry as Akane continues to pound Ranma into the ground even after he is unconscious. He tries to stop her from killing the downed pigtailed martial artist, when she attacks him as well.

Nodoka watching this from the gate, as she enters the compound. She rushes forward, pulling her sword. She cuts through Akane's mallet. The angry girl turns to attack the interloper only to find the point of a katana at her throat.

Nodoka has Kasumi call an ambulance, for the two boys. She then turns to Soun Tendo and calls off all engagements between the two clans. She then calls a blood feud for not only the Saotome family but the Hibiki family. She glares at Genma as he is about to protest and starts swinging her sword in a complacated kata. Genma backs away in awe and fright as he did not know his wife was that skilled.

At the hospital Nodoka phones the police and swears out a warrant on Akane for both Ryoga and Ranma. She feels since Ryoga's family is hard to find she would do this for them. She then phones several newspapers and places ads announcing the feud in the hopes of flushing out a true Hibiki.

The two boys lie near death for almost three weeks but slowly they mend. When they wake they find they are sharing a hospital room and are still hooked up to live support.

"This is all your fault Ranma!" Ryoga growls with gasping breaths.

Before Ranma can respond a voice at the door to their room gets their attention.

"No son it is not! It is time you take responsiblity for your own actions and to recongize the actions of others as their choice not his."

Ranma sees a woman and man vaguely familiar to him but he can't remember where until he hears Ryoga's gasping voice.

"Mom! Dad!"

It is then that the boys learn what has been happening Akane on trial for attempted murder. The blood fued and Genma's expulsion from the Saotome family since he decided to side with Tendo.

The boys stare in shock at Ryoga's parents and Ranma's mother who came in behind them. When the parents leave after visiting. Ryoga and Ranma begin to talk and both decide they don't want to hurt the Tendos especially Akane. They also can not go against their parents because they know the blood fued and trial is needed.

So that night, though still weak they sneak out of the hospital and disappear, with Ryoga leading the way.
